- 📱 Scroll Patrol - TikTok: It’s for the kids! And the occasional dancing bear. According to a recent report from Pew Research Center, 56% of American adults between the ages of 18 and 34 are on TikTok.
- 🧑💻 LinkedOut - Some users on TikTok say the platform helped them advance their career. One research report showed that 41% of Gen Z users made a career-related decision based on what they found on the app. In fact, 15% received an offer for a job they found on TikTok. In another survey of Zoomers, a whopping 80% said they’ve used TikTok to network.
- 🤸 Show Us Your Moves - Back in 2021, the platform created the “TikTok Resumes” pilot program. Big companies like Target and Chipotle used the app to pose open jobs and invited applicants to submit a video resume. The best submissions then moved forward in a formal interview process.
- 🤳 Another Day in Paradise - A lot of career advice on TikTok comes from two kinds of videos. In “Get Ready with Me” (GRWM) videos, people show what it’s like to get ready for the work day while explaining what they do. Similarly, “A Day In My Life” (DIML) videos give people a peek into what life would be like working at a particular job. Try before you buy!
- 🤔 Fact or Fiction - Getting any kind of professional advice on social media should be taken with a grain of salt. Just because a video goes viral doesn’t mean it’s helpful…or factual. Don’t be afraid to stalk the creator on LinkedIn to make sure they’re legit. When in doubt about a piece of advice, head to a professional website, like the Society of Human Resource Management.
🔥Bottom line: If you’re an old head, keeping up with the latest social media trends can make your head spin. If you’re not on TikTok, don’t worry - you can still apply for jobs the old fashioned way! Just don’t send a fax. New research shows that fewer new grads are getting hired these days. Read our article about that here.
