Our state’s unemployment numbers are like a kid’s rollercoaster at the county fair: very low with some small drops and bumps.
Here’s Five Fast Facts About Wisconsin’s Unemployment Numbers:
- 📉 Little is Big - The current unemployment rate sits at 3.3%, which is still below the national rate of 3.7%. That’s around 104,000 jobless people.
- 📈 Growth Spurt - Around 1,700 jobs were created in November, with a record high of 3,020,300 people with jobs in Wisconsin. 32,300 jobs were created this year alone.
- 🧮 Participation Trophy - Our state’s total labor force participation rate jumped to 65.9%, which is higher than the national rate of 62.8%. Almost 2/3 of the state is working or actively looking to work.
- 👷 Industry Standards - The industries with the highest job growth include the private sector, healthcare/social assistance, and construction.
- 📊 Less is More - New unemployment filings increased to 7,317 during the last week of December. That usually acts as an indicator of layoffs. There are currently 38,000 people receiving unemployment in the state.
🔥Bottom line: The numbers are clear: a majority of Wisconsinites are working! The growth numbers show jobs are still being created. It’s a good bet they’ll continue to climb once employers like Microsoft have that expansion ready to go.
