Why Won’t They Notice Me?

Work can be very tedious, especially when you feel like you’re not getting the recognition you truly deserve. You work hard, you do a good job, and you produce results without fail. But what’s it going to take to get your boss to notice?

Here’s Five Fast Facts Getting Recognition at Work:

  1. 🤨 You Or Them? - First things first: is your need for recognition an organizational problem or a personal problem? Give that question some serious thought. If it’s organizational, it’s time to take action.
  2. 👋 Look at me! - Your idea of recognition may differ from others. A recent survey of 1600 workers shows that 70% of workers say that a promotion is a form of recognition, 44% preferred rewards and public recognition, and 37% said a pay raise. Which one works for you? If it’s all of the above, you might want to narrow it down a bit.
  3. 👋 Let’s Talk - Schedule a meeting and talk with your boss. Let them know you’d like feedback (both positive and negative) from here on out. Come prepared with a list of your recent wins, too.
  4. 🤔 Ideas - Turns out 63% of employees feel there’s no standard recognition process in place at their job. This is where you can step up and make some suggestions (so long as it’s not a pizza party) that may help move the needle closer to where you want.
  5. 💨 Peace Out - If all else fails, it may be time to look for a new job. At some point you need to realize you’re ice skating uphill and that recognition may never happen despite your best efforts.

🔥Bottom line: There’s nothing worse than toiling away at a job without any sort of appreciation from the people you’re helping remain a successful business. But as they say “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” so start squeaking.
