Which States Have the Best Average Salary?

What’s the best state to live in? That’s a good question and it depends on who you ask and how you’re judging things. If you use data on average salary, you’ll find some surprising names on the list.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the best states to relocate to in 2024:

  1. 🌊 Connecticut - Topping the list is Connecticut, with an average salary of $84,972, which is 35.3% higher than the national average. It’s got the second lowest crime rate in the country and it’s also quite beautiful to look at.
  2. 👪 Utah - It may be the land of 100 wives, but it’s also the land of most job openings per 1000, at 3,984. Utah boasts the third-highest school quality rating on the list and a median household income of $79,133.
  3. 🧾 New Hampshire - An average salary of $74,663 (that’s 18.9% higher than the national average) lands New Hampshire in third place. Aside from being the best state with “Hampshire” in its name, it can claim the lowest crime rate of the top five and is one of the few states without income tax.
  4. 🏔️ Wyoming - Wyoming not only has an average salary of $71,342, it also has the highest school quality on this list. Don’t forget Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, and Grand Teton (heh) National Park for some unrivaled outdoor splendor.
  5. 🌨️ Minnesota - Minnesota is known for more than just snow and funny accents. It has a booming economy with a historic low unemployment rate of 3.1% and an average salary of $68,010.

🔥Bottom line: None of these states are “major” centers of industry like New York or Texas or California. That doesn’t make them any less important in the overall scheme of the country. If anything, it demonstrates how different the economy can be from state to state.
