When You Or Your Friend’s Bitter About the Ballots…

Well kids, it looks like we’ve got another four years of Trump ahead of us. A lot of Americans are super-jazzed, but a lot…aren’t. 😰

Like it or not, the best path forward is one of acceptance. At least if you want more sanity in your life and less toddler tantrum. 😅

Before heading to your MAGA meemaw’s house for the holidays (or to Canada), cool your jets with these coping tips. 👇

Here’s Five Fast Facts on how to deal with the election results:

  1. 🎭 I Get So Emotional, Baby - If you’re feeling all the feels, that’s A-OK! No good ever came from ignoring your emotions. Give yourself some time to grieve. It’s OK to feel sad, angry, and disappointed. While you’re settling down, unplug from the news and social media. Don’t feed the fire!
  1. 🌀 Spiraling Out - Everywhere you look, there’s a new doomsday post. Don’t get stuck in a “what if” spiral and dwell on worst-case scenarios. Try your best to stay in the present moment. Call up your bestie and go for a walk (or for margaritas and house-made chips). If you can, reschedule meetings and appointments for when you’re feeling better.
  1. Reality Check - Sure, they tell us this is “the most important election of our lifetime,” but that’s what they say every election. Remember that no one single election determines the entire future. Sure the results will have impacts, but everything is cyclical. Sometimes Red wins, other times Blue. Also remember that the government is much bigger than the president. Many people are involved in major decisions.
  1. 🏞️ Touching Grass - You know what makes everything worse? A lack of sleep. When you’re anxious, it’s harder to get that much-needed shut-eye. Turn off the phone and TV about an hour before bed to get cozy. If you tend to oversleep when you’re stressed, make sure you get outside, even if it’s just for a couple minutes. Time in mother nature helps your body stay regulated.
  2. 🚀 Lights, Camera, Action - Don’t let all the doom and gloom around the election make you feel helpless. You can always make a difference in your local community. Volunteer for causes that mean the most to you. Check out your local city council meetings and get involved in local politics. Your voice absolutely matters!
