How often do you hear the phrase “economists say…” in the news? If you’re like us, it’s quite a lot! It’s interesting that they are always referred to as experts, but at the same time they’re often wrong (kinda like the weather guy, right?). So, what exactly are these mysterious economists, and what are the actual jobs you can get with an Economics degree? And, perhaps most importantly for us: what kind of Paychecks do they pull down?
Here are Five Fast Facts on Economics jobs:
- 🚪 Swiss Army Knife - A degree in Economics opens a lot of doors in a lot of different industries! You can work in research, analysis, forecasting, or even corporate/business management. Making sense of numbers is critical in a lot of ways, so being qualified and skilled at this makes you very valuable to just about any company. Get your study on, though, because they do often require some advanced degrees!
- 🔍 Research And Guidance - A lot of economics-related jobs are all about researching, understanding lots of data, and figuring out what it’s telling you. Market analysts and statisticians are a great example of this, and they call pull down salaries up to $115k per year!
- 📣 Consulting - Related to analysis is putting into practice what that analysis is telling you. That’s where consultants come into the picture. While maybe a bit less skilled at the research and hardcore numbers, these folks help translate what the data tells you into actionable results. They are experts in their field, and also help coach or train others to do the right things based on the numbers. They can make upwards of $106k per year.
- 🏢 Large And In Charge - Obviously, understanding the numbers of a business is essential to running that business. A lot of company leaders and executives have degrees in economics or finance because they understand how all those numbers boil down to the bottom line of making products and services for customers. They can earn more than $100k per year (or a whole lot more if they are top execs).
- 🤔 On The Peripheral - There are a lot of other jobs, though, that aren’t really economics jobs but that are done much better with strong economics knowledge. This includes things like business reporter, corporate lawyer, loan officer, or financial advisor. These jobs can pull in $100k or more, too.
🔥Bottom line: All of these require at least a Bachelor’s degree, and some even more. But, if you are one of those “numbers” people who loves to make data tell you a story, embracing your passion can get you to a lot of really great jobs that provide some amazing Paychecks!
