What Does It Take To Lure You To A New Job?

There are a lot of factors that come into play when deciding to look for a new job. The job itself, the company, the mission, the people, and the hours are all part of the equation. And, of course, don’t forget about the money. Bringing home the bacon certainly isn’t the only thing that causes people to change jobs, but it is a huge factor in the decision to head to (hopefully) greener pastures. But how much does it take to lure most people away? Thanks to a new survey we have the answer!

Here are Five Fast Facts on salary requirements for a new job:

  1. 💰 Show Me The Money - The money needed to lure most workers away from their current job in Q2 of this year was just under $79k. Yep, we think that’d work for most people!
  1. 📈 Looking Up - This is about 8% higher than a year ago, 22% higher than three years ago, and the highest it’s been since they began tracking it in 2014. Yay for bigger Paychecks! Except for one thing…
  1. 😵‍💫 Inflation Madness - This is important because while inflation has cooled off for goods, it seems to be very much alive and well in wages, driving salaries ever upward. When life is more expensive, people demand to be paid more, which in turn forces companies to raise prices, which causes people to demand to be paid more…you get the point.
  1. 💵 The Offers - Actual employment offers are coming in an average of a little over $69k, up 14% in the last year. Maybe most workers just aren’t good at negotiating higher salaries. 🤷
  1. 🤏 Mind the Gap - There’s a pretty big gap between what people want and what employers are offering, but employee satisfaction is still up across the board. Are employees just “high-balling” their prospective employers? 🤔

🔥Bottom line: As you know, we’re all in favor of bigger Paychecks, and this is a clear indicator of exactly that. But it’s far better in the long term for those bigger Paychecks to be the result of strong economic growth rather than a runaway economic freight train that will run off the tracks sooner or later.

Still, if you can get yourself that bigger Paycheck, we say good on you!
