We're Back in the Office…and It's Expensive AF

For many Americans, pandemic work-from-home-bliss has now evaporated into thin air. 💨 Gone are the days where you could roll out of bed, onto your couch, and into 39823 spreadsheets. 📊 Now you're back to wearing pants and putting up with Lisa from Purchasing and her stinky lunches. 🙊🍛

In addition to smelly snacks in the breakroom, heading back to the office is costing workers more than they anticipated. 🥴 What gives? We've got the latest stats right here.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the cost of being back in the office:

  1. 🏢 We're Back, Baby - The pandemic is over and the boss man's eager to get butts back in those cubicles. According to a recent report, last year, 41% of workers said they were back in the office full time. This year, it bumped up to 66%.
  1. 🧾 Total It Up - On average, today's workers spend about $51 per day in the office. Here's the breakdown: $14 on the commute, $8 for parking, $13 for breakfast and coffee, and $16 for lunch.
  1. 🐩 Barks, Bites, and Bills - Sending your fur baby to the nanny? Workers with pets report spending an average of $20 a day on doggie day care services.
  1. 🚗 Pay to Play - Even if you're only back in the office part-time, chances are you're spending more than you were at home. While full time office workers spend around $1,020 per month, hybrid workers spend an average of $408 per month.
  1. 👩🏽‍💻 Perk Up the Place - Trying to get your hybrid employees back in the office full time? Employers might have to pump up the perks. In a survey of hybrid employees, the number one perk that would convert them into full time office dwellers would be if their workplace covered their commuting expenses. They also wouldn't mind child care benefits, free food, and a relaxed dress code.

🔥Bottom line: Listen, we know that food cart right outside the office is convenient as hell, but buying food every day really adds up! It might be a pain, but a little meal prepping on Sundays could help you save big bucks on office meals. You'll probably feel a whole lot healthier, too!
