Wishing your daily commute was the highway to the danger zone? ⚠️ Thinking about changing your name to Maverick?! 😎 Before you take on the dangerous job of your dreams, have a look at the paycheck. 💸
A recent survey rounded up 15 of the most dangerous jobs along with their median salaries. Walking on the wild side nine-to-five might not pay as much as you think.
Here’s five of the most dangerous jobs and what they pay:
- 👷 Workin' for the Weekend - Construction laborers work in not-so-safe environments when they're on the job, like unfinished building sites and demolition areas. They also work with some pretty bada$$ equipment, like jackhammers. Median salary - $37,520.
- 🚛 Life is a Highway - In 2021, deaths in the transportation and materials-moving industry reached an all-time high. There was a whopping 16.3% increase in deaths among drivers and sales workers (what were they selling??). The riskiest jobs in the sector are heavy truck and tractor trailer operators. Median salary - $53,090.
- 🚜 Down on the Farm - Keeping the farm running is no cake walk! Agricultural equipment operators put themselves at risk every day when working those heavy machines. Even though the latest equipment makes farming quicker and easier, these operator jobs are some of the most dangerous in the country. Median salary - $39,750.
- 🪜 Fiddler on the Roof - No one gets higher than roofers! Unfortunately, climbing and working on sloped surfaces comes with a pretty big fall risk, especially if you lose your footing. Roofers also have to do a decent amount of heavy lifting. Median salary - $47,110.
- ✈️ A Little Turbulence - Commercial pilots have the biggest salary on the list. However, it's also the most dangerous job in the transportation category and the second most dangerous job of all (second only to tree trimmers). Median salary - $123,250.
🔥Bottom line: Money isn't everything, and if you're able to pay your bills, a less-than-millionaire salary might suit your dangerous self just fine. However, if you're putting your life on the line to earn a living, your paycheck should reflect that! Need more job-related news in your life? Check out this article about the four-day work week.
