Use These Travel Tips to Save Big

Let’s face it. Money’s tight for so many Americans this summer. 💸 Tighter than the Bee Gees’ pants in the Stayin’ Alive video. 🕺 You’re welcome for this visual.

You might not think a vacation’s in the cards this year, but with a little smart planning, you could wind up with a nice little trip after all! 😎

Here’s Five Fast Facts for how to vacation on a budget:

  1. 👥 I Wanna Be Where the People Aren’t - One way to cut costs on travel is to plan your trip during off-peak times. Certain seasons (and even days of the week) get you better deals than others. If you have a destination in mind, run it through a little Google search to see when they have the fewest visitors. If you have wiggle room in your departure and arrival dates, switching around flight days could save you a pretty penny or two.
  1. 🧳 Small But Mighty - Who needs a big city trip when you can take in some small town charm? In addition to being unique, they’re also more affordable. Hotels and food are often significantly cheaper and it’s easier to find free activities, like historical sites and parks. Bonus: small towns are also less crowded.
  1. 🧑‍🍳 Bone Apple Teeth! - Renting an Airbnb with a kitchen? Make the most out of it. Cooking some meals back at your home base keeps the ol’ wallet happy. Plus, you get to check out the local supermarkets for interesting treats. Oh, and don’t forget to pack reusable water bottles for the entire fam. Bottled water is expensive AF. These days, many attractions allow you to bring in empty bottles and refill them at water stations free of charge.
  1. 🏕️ Hit the Trails - Outdoor-focused trips are notoriously budget-friendly. National parks are chock-full of activities like hiking, biking, and fishing, and you’ll typically pay just a small admission fee for access (if it’s not free). Campsites are free or super cheap to rent and if you have to pay for parking, it’s much cheaper than that fancy hotel valet service.
  1. 👛 Bang for Your Buck - When you’re picking out a hotel, choose one that includes extra freebies in your stay. Free breakfast is a great way to fuel up the fam before heading out for the day and keeps more cash in your pocket. Many hotels also offer free shuttle service to popular locations around town so you can skip Uber. Hotel pools also offer some free fun for the kids.

🔥Bottom line: Now that you have a strategy under your belt, it’s time to choose a destination! You’re in luck, we have an article just for you. Check out our list of five fantastic places to vacation on a budget. Happy travels!
