Two Hot Issues on Ohio's November Ballot

This November, Ohioans won't be voting for their favorite state and local government celebrities. 🤩 Instead, two of the hottest of hot-button issues in America are on the ballot: abortion and weed.

Issue 1 is all about the right to reproductive medical treatments for the citizens of Ohio. 🩺 Issue 2 is for the tokers, which would legalize recreational marijuana in the Buckeye State. 🌿 Before you hit the polls, check out these quick hits of need-to-know info. 📋

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Ohio's upcoming election:

  1. 🗳️ Hot Button Ballot - The passing of Issue 1 will create legal protections for anyone who receives reproductive medical treatment, such as an abortion. Additionally, in short, the state won't be allowed to prohibit abortions at any stage of pregnancy, even up to when babies are full-term.

  2. ⚖️ Official Business - Issue 1 will pass with a majority “yes” vote. If passed, the amendment will go into effect this December and become an amendment in the Ohio Constitution.
  1. 💨 Legalize It - The passing of Issue 2 would legalize recreational marijuana. It legalizes the cultivation, processing, sale, purchase, possession, home grow, and use of cannabis for adults age 21 and older. Issue 2 would also establish the Division of Cannabis Control within the Department of Commerce to oversee regulations and licensing.
  1. 📑 One Smokin' Issue - A limited amount of products with THC are already legal in Ohio, but it's not the “good” stuff (not like we'd know). Issue 2 legalizes the whole range of marijuana products. If Issue 2 passes, it'll create and modify several rules in Chapter 3780 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  1. 🗓️ Mark Your Calendar - Election day is November 7, and the polls will be open from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm. If you're submitting an absentee ballot, your application has to be received by your county board of elections by 8:30 pm on October 31.

🔥Bottom line: Tensions are high over these issues (no pun intended). For many Americans nationwide, opinions on both abortion and marijuana can get pretty extreme. No matter what your stance is, promise us you won't be a jerk at the polls, OK? Every party might have a pooper, but don't be a stinker. Once you complete your voting duties, clear your mind while waiting for the results on one of these amazing OH hikes.
