TurboTax Owes Customers Money in PA (and the Other 49 States)

🚀Millions of Americans use TurboTax to file their taxes in a jiffy. However, the speedy company recently had to slow its roll (or is it role🤔). 

The online tax filing service owes money to folks who were tricked into paying for tax services that should have been free. 🥴🌪️ Are you entitled to a piece of the pie? Keep reading to find out!

 

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the TurboTax fiasco:

  1. 💵 Settle Down - TurboTax’s owner, Intuit, agreed to a $141 million multi-state settlement, and all 50 states are included in the agreement.

  2. 😤 That Was Free? - You're eligible for reimbursement if you paid to file your federal tax returns through TurboTax, but were eligible to file for free through the IRS Free File Program. Note: this applies to tax years 2016 through 2018 only.
  1. 🤑 Show Me the Money - The amount you're entitled to depends on the number of tax years for which you qualify. The average payout per customer is expected to be between $29 and $30 per eligible year.
  1. 📬 Check Your Mailbox - If you're eligible for a check, you'll be contacted by email. You'll also get your check in the mail automatically without filing a claim. Checks are expected to be mailed sometime during the month of May.

  2. 🤓 The Fine Print - PA will get over $4.76 million for the 158,779 TurboTax customers impacted by the funny business. 

🔥Bottom line: The lawsuit claimed that TurboTax used predatory marketing tactics to trick customers into paying for something they shouldn't have.
