Trouble At Stellantis

We all know how important the auto industry is to Michigan. We live by it and we die by it. More accurately, life is grand when it goes well and there are big problems when it doesn’t. So what’s the latest news? Well, it ain’t good, at least for Stellantis.

Here are Five Fast Facts about Stellantis jobs in Michigan:

  1. 👎 A Real Downer - Sales have been going down for a while. Overall US sales are down 21% from a year ago, and Ram trucks in particular are down 23% last quarter.
  1. 📈 Excess Inventory - As one might expect, with sales being down, inventory is up. As of May, there were 188 days of Ram truck inventory available, which was about double the industry average. Jeep had 154 days of inventory, and Dodge performance had 138 days of inventory.
  1. 😭 Cutting Back - As a result, Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge and Jeep, just announced it will be cutting almost 2500 jobs as of October 8th.
  1. 🪓 Shift Happens - The Ram 1500 Classic line at the Warren plant will end later this year, dropping from two shifts per day to just one. Only the Jeep Wagoneer will be made there going forward.
  1. 😡 Say What? - The UAW, which represents almost all of the 3500 workers at the Warren plant, was obviously not too pleased about this. The UAW’s president had some choice words for the Stellantis CEO, including “disgrace” and “embarrassment.”

🔥Bottom line: This is obviously terrible news for those folks and their Paychecks. Hopefully Stellantis will at least help the laid off workers find jobs at other locations!
