A lot of Americans straight up live for Halloween and the numbers show it! From the simple trick or treat candy to the massive yard displays, we’re spending more than ever on Halloween, and the numbers will creep you out worse than Britney Spears’ knife dance.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Halloween Spending in America:
- 👻 Creepy - This year, it’s projected that we’ll spend $12.2B on the Halloween. That’s the same amount that American Airlines made in the first three months of this year.
- 😱 Kooky - Just to put it into perspective: $4B will be spent on costumes and another $3.5B will be spent on candy. Ford is building a factory for $3.5B. No word yet if it will be haunted.
- 🕸️ Mysterious - Breaking the numbers down further, American households spent an average of $100.45 each in 2022. Clearly they didn’t talk to my neighbor Randy who has a 12-foot werewolf and four inflatables with sound effects that he leaves on ALL NIGHT. (I hate you Randy. Please move.)
- 🎃 Spooky - So who’s responsible for all this spending? It can’t be everyone, right? Right? Well, it looks like about 70% of Americans are participating in Halloween festivities this year. To put it in context, 66% of eligible adults voted in the 2020 election.
- 👹 Ooky - Of those participating, 99% of them are buying candy, 75% are buying decorations, and 67% are buying costumes (including costumes for kids and pets).
🔥Bottom line: Apparently we love Halloween to an astonishing degree. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. I’m just curious to see how anyone can top the giant skeletons and werewolves.
