Football season is right around the corner and you know what that means! Time to rip a few beer bongs with your buddies in your local stadium parking lot at 7am! 😵🍻 Don’t forget to eat a hot dog or two so you survive until at least halftime. 🌭
If you’re in charge of putting together the next tailgate, we’ve got some money-saving tips. Go team! 🏈
Here’s Five Fast Facts on how to tailgate on a budget:
- 🚘 Parking Wars - How much is it to park at the stadium again? Here, take my firstborn. On second thought, if you’re tailgating with a crew, have one person park in the lot and have the rest of the group park elsewhere or take public transportation to save a buck. Keep your eyes peeled for cheaper secondary lots. If they’re full of fans, you’ll still have a ball.
- 🍲 Potluck Party - Tailgating with the whole squad? Do it up potluck style. Have each person in your party bring their own dish and create a budget-friendly buffet! Fire up a Google Sheet and share it around so everyone remembers what they’re supposed to bring. If you’re boozin’, make the affair BYOB.
- 🧊 Ice Cold - To save on food costs, hit up the frozen section at the grocery store. Items like frozen burger patties and chicken wings are available in larger quantities for significantly less dough. Pro tip: throw your frozen food in the cooler to thaw. It’ll also keep those brewskis chilly.
- 💸 For You? A Dollar - For tailgate essentials, hit up the closest dollar store. You’ll find everything from utensils and plates to storage containers and garbage bags there. Plus, you’ll spend way less on these items than you would at the supermarket.
- 👛 No Frills Nation - OK, we know Joe Cool across the lot went all out with his RV and inflatable gazebo. Don’t feel like you have to keep up with the Joneses. Remember, tailgates started with people just hanging off the back of a truck with a cooler and a grill in the back. No need to be fancy! If you’re looking for portable tables and chairs, check out your local thrift stores and grab them at a deep discount.
🔥Bottom line: There’s nothing quite like an awesome tailgate experience that doesn’t break the bank. With these tips, you’ll have fun and keep the money anxiety at bay. Hey, if you hate football season, you can always leave the country. Take it international and check out these cool destinations.
