Everything is expensive! We say it a lot because it hits home a lot. Maybe the worst place we feel it is when buying groceries. After all, it’s not like you can just skip it for a few days, right? None of us can magically bring down the price of groceries, so our next best bet is to look for ways to save money while we buy them. Sure, there’s clipping coupons – and if this is your thing, more power to ya’! – but what if you don’t want to go down that road?
Here are Five Fast Facts on saving money on groceries without clipping coupons:
- 👀 Change Of Scenery - Most people have a certain store or two that they like, but there are often stores that are cheaper. You can save 30-50% just by shopping at different places, especially bigger volume stores or buying in bulk. Also check out the loyalty programs, as they often provide discounts that are automatically applied when you check out for a super easy saving experience.
- 😎 Go Generic - It might not be as sexy, but buying the generic or store brands gives you pretty much the same product for a lot less money, as much as 30% less. Ain’t no shame in the money-saving game!
- 💲 Live The Sales - Know your sales! Remember the normal prices so you can spot them easily, read the weekly circulars, and stock up on loss leader products. If possible, see if you can figure out the cycle of your store’ sales - they’ll usually have a pattern, if you can find it. Also, be sure to leverage senior discounts and clearance items whenever you can. Buying post-expiration products can get you a very steep discount on foods that are still good. Probably.
- 📝 Plan To Save - When you go shopping, make a list and stick to it! Most of the time when we overspend it’s because we walk by something and decide right then and there that we need it. Resist impulse buying! Also, be aware of the retail phrase “eye level is buy level” and be sure to check out the highest and lowest shelves for better priced products.
- 💸 Change Of Method - Another great strategy is to use a different method of payment. Many credit cards or cash back apps like Ibotta or Fetch Rewards give you great perks for your purchases that can really add up over time.
🔥Bottom line: Anything we can do to save a few bucks here and there helps. Stretching those Paychecks has never been more important!
