We’re sorry to hear about your horrible boss who passed away. If you really want to impress him with some last words, stroll up to the coffin and ask him to think outside the box! 🤪⚰️
OK, maybe that’s a little harsh. 🙈 You know what else is harsh? PA workers might be owed back wages but have no idea. Have no fear, we’re shedding some light on it! 🔦
Here’s Five Fast Facts on PA employers who owe cash:
- 🫴 Red Handed - Businesses who behave badly and break federal wage laws have to answer to the Department of Labor. When they get caught, the DOL makes them pay back wages and penalties to underpaid workers. If the employer can’t get in touch with the impacted employees, they have to send the pay to the DOL who then tries to find them.
- 👀 Finders Keepers - Although the DOL is tasked with getting workers their cash, they don’t always find everyone. In fact, the Philadelphia Inquirer discovered that 260 PA companies owe 9,000 workers some moolah. One person was owed over $99,000!
- ⏳ Tick Tock - Now, here’s the twist. Once an employer pays out a settlement, an invisible clock starts. Employees have three years to claim their back pay or the DOL sends the money to the U.S. Treasury.
- 📋 Hit List - Wondering if your company is one of the offenders? The Inquirer put together a handy dandy list of all 260 employers who owe back pay. Companies on the list are from a wide range of industries, from restaurants to home health care.
- 💵 Claim Your Cash - Did you spot your employer’s name? If so, head to this DOL website to see if you’re owed some cash. Remember to act quick! Don’t let your owed paychecks get dumped into Uncle Sam’s pockets.
