Remember back when the entire world shut down in the pandemic, and the government was flinging out stimulus checks to everyone like they were raindrops? Apparently they found a few bags of money left over in a closet somewhere, because there’s more coming! Are you going to get some of it?
Here are Five Fast Facts about another round of stimmy checks:
- 😯 What For? - The IRS has discovered that up to a million people who were eligible to receive stimmy checks back in 2021 didn’t get them. Doesn’t matter that the pandemic is over, doesn’t matter if those folks didn’t want the checks…dammit, you WILL take government money!
- 💰 How Much? - The amount of these puppies will vary, but the max is $1,400. In all, the IRS is going to send out about $2.4 billion in additional stimmy checks.
- 👀 Who Gets It? - The IRS isn’t giving a lot of specifics, but it seems like anyone who filed a 2021 tax return and was eligible to receive money but left the Recovery Rebate Credit field on their tax return blank (or put $0) is going to get it now. We’ll wait if you’re already getting out your copy of your tax return to check…
- ⌚ When Will It Land? - If you’re going to get a check (either by paper check or direct deposit), you should see it by late January 2025. Just in time to drown your sorrows in some retail therapy from already failing your new year’s weight loss plan!
- 👍 What Do They Have To Do? - This is the best part: nothing! If you’re going to get one, it’ll just appear in your bank account (or mailbox) in the next few weeks.
🔥Bottom line: For those who get the money, congratulations! Buy a round for your friends or stimulate the local economy in whatever way you choose.
Just out of curiosity, though, why does the government feel the need to throw around even more taxpayer money to help people recover from the pandemic years after the pandemic is over? 🤔
