The Scoop On PA’s Newest Laws

It sure is hot here in Pennsylvania. 🥵 What’s the deal? Global warming? The Phillies? Or maybe…it’s a boatload of new laws! ⚖️

PA’s getting almost a dozen new laws. We’ve rounded up five great ones for your reading pleasure. 👇

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the new PA laws:

  1. 👻 Gone Ghosted - When a loved one passes away, it’s common for family or friends to cancel services on their behalf, like cable and phone bills. Thanks to Act 29, businesses can no longer charge an early termination fee to a deceased person. High five from beyond the grave.
  1. 🖥️ Papa Don’t Breach - If a data breach impacts over 500 people, PA’s Act 33 requires businesses and organizations to alert the Attorney General’s Office. Under the law, victims of the breach get a free credit report once a month for six months and credit monitoring services for one year.
  1. 🧬 Got You Covered - We all know that medicine saves lives, but what good is new healthcare if your insurance won’t foot the bill? Under Act 39, “precision medicine” or biomarker testing has to be covered by insurance plans. Biomarker testing helps identify potentially lifesaving treatment options for those suffering from diseases like ALS and cancer.
  1. 🌷 Stop and Smell the Roses - Road tripping around PA is about to get its native nature on. According to Act 37, PennDOT will be planting only native vegetation along state roadways. Nodding onion lovers rejoice!
  1. 📦 Unit or Lose It - We hope you don’t abandon your storage unit anytime soon. Act 31 revised the language in the Strengthening the Self-Service Storage Facility Act to make it easier for storage unit facilities to empty out delinquent units and recoup rental income.
