Do you ever wish you could take back that cringy thing you said in that meeting? 🤐 How about wishing you never signed the offer letter in the first place? 😝💼 Yeah, we’ve all been there.
Work regrets? We all have a few. A new study polled workers to uncover their biggest career regrets. 🙈 Spoiler alert: no one reported regretting a pandering pizza party. 🍕
Here’s Five Fast Facts on top career regrets:
- 😵💫 Where’s That Time Machine? - No take-backsies! According to the survey, the majority (66%) of respondents said they had work-related regrets of some kind. The survey consisted of a thousand workers in the U.S., U.K., France, and Germany.
- 📑 Pile of Regrets - When it comes to actual regrets, here were the top four: not asking for a pay increase (60%), not prioritizing work-life balance (59%), staying at a job too long (58%), and not negotiating salary for a new job (58%).
- 🏎️ Midlife Crisis Crew - Which generation had the most regrets? Those in their mid-career years. The survey revealed that 70% of Millennials and 69% of Gen Xers have regrets. That number drops off with age, as only 52% of Boomers reported regrets.
- 💡 Life’s Lessons - Why are the Boomers more unbothered? Some research shows that happiness hits a low when people reach their late 40s due to family, financial, and career pressures. However, it seems to bounce back later in life once people gain perspective and develop gratitude for their achievements.
- 💸 Baby Needs a Raise - One takeaway from others’ work regrets should be to always negotiate salary when you switch jobs. It’s a brand new opportunity to get yourself that higher paycheck! According to the data, 58% of U.S. workers took a new job without negotiating pay. However, out of the people who did, 85% received a higher offer.
🔥Bottom line: Hey, if the cringe factor is so bad you need to bolt, go ahead and find yourself a fresh start elsewhere. If you’re looking for a new job, you might be surprised to see those in-office gigs pay more than their remote cousins. Check out this article for all the details.
