Who says there’s nothing worthwhile in Ohio? 🤨 According to new stats, the Buckeye State is home to some of the fastest growing cities in the country. 📈
We’re breaking down the latest population stats, based on a recent U.S. Census Bureau survey. Did your hometown make the cut? 💁🏻♀️
Here’s Five Fast Facts on population changes in Ohio:
- 👥 I’m Popular - According to the report, Columbus received a gold star when it comes to most populous cities. The city ranked 14th on the list with a little over 913,000 residents. Columbus grew by 0.5% between July 1, 2022 and July 1, 2023 and added 5,000 new residents.
- 🏛️ Ohio, Not Greece - As far as fastest-growing American cities go, Athens clocked in at number 15 on the list. Athens had an impressive 8.6% population growth rate over the last year. What are they giving away?!
- 📦 Moving In - Who had the highest rates of population growth in the Buckeye State? It’s not Columbus or Cincinnati (each added 0.5%). Washington Township (south of Dayton, including Centerville) took home that prize. The township’s population increased from 62,360 to 62,998 in a year (roughly 1%).
- 🏘️ Rockin’ the Suburbs - Moving our focus outside the major cities, suburban Cincinnati grew quite a bit. In Hamilton (north of Cincinnati), the population grew from 62,936 to 62,997. Northwest of Cincinnati, Green Township jumped from 59,587 to 59,626.
- 👋 Smell Ya Later - Not every Ohio city experienced growth. Both Canton and Parma had the biggest population declines in the state. Canton lost 0.5% of its population, going from 69,545 to 69,197 people. In Parma, the population decreased from 79,360 to 78,951 (also 0.5%). Toledo’s population decreased by 0.4%, and Dayton and Youngstown each lost 0.1% of their population.
