The Crazy Spending on the Ohio Senate Race

Speaking of bulging pockets, there’s a booty-load of cash being dumped into the Buckeye State’s upcoming fall Senate race…and it’s nothing to sneeze at! 😤
 

Here’s Five Fast Facts on ad spend for the Ohio Senate race:

  1. 💸 In It to Win It - According to new data, so far, more cash has been spent on holding ad space for Ohio’s fall Senate race than for the presidential race. Yep, read that again. The reason? Ohio’s race is a biggie, and the results could determine who controls the Senate next year.
  2. 👛 State of Affairs - Across all states, $725 million has already been spent to pre-book ad space between September 1st and Election Day, November 5th. From that bucket, $150 million of that has been spent on the Ohio Senate race. Republican Bernie Moreno will face off against the incumbent Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown.
  1. 🍔 Arby’s Big Montana - To put things into perspective, only $129 million has been spent so far on the presidential race. Montana is spending a notable amount as well, coming in third at $104 million spent.
  2. 👀 Everywhere You Look - So far, an eye-popping $2.5 billion has been spent nationwide on all political ads across a wide range of media channels, from radio and cable to all things digital. It’s a pretty significant increase from the $1.7 billion spent by this time in the 2020 election cycle. 
  1. 🧮 Ad It All Up - How much ad revenue will all this political mayhem rake in? According to ad agency researchers, it’s estimated to reach a whopping $17.1 billion, including direct mail campaigns. We could think of a few other ways to spend some of that moolah…

🔥Bottom line: Phew, and we thought 2020 was a cray-cray election year! By the looks of this spending, we’ll need to buckle into our seats and keep a tight grip on our popcorn.
