Speaking of not getting wins, the Cleveland Browns aren’t exactly known for being champions. 🥴 One proposed bill wants to keep losing teams from getting access to taxpayer dollars. Here’s the piping hot tea. 🫖
Here’s Five Fast Facts on the proposed bill:
- 🏟️ Browned to a Crisp - The Cleveland Browns franchise wants to leave the Forest City for suburban pastures. They’re looking to set up a new entertainment district in Brook Park…and it has a $2.4 billion price tag. BTW, the Browns went 3-14 last season (whomp whomp).
- 🏈 Bills for Ballers - The Browns say they’ll pony up $1.2 billion for the project, but the rest has to come from Ohio taxpayers. Roughly $600 million would come from the state and another $600 million from surrounding counties.
- 💸 I’m a Loser, Baby - Senator Bill DeMora (D) out of Columbus is not havin’ it. DeMora believes the Browns aren’t good enough to get their hands on the taxpayer dollars of hard working Ohioans. In a newly proposed bill, professional sports teams would need to have winning records for three of the last five seasons to be eligible.
- 🐯 Tiger King - The Bengals are also on the hunt for stadium dollars, but were left out of the House’s latest proposed budget. Unlike the Browns, the Bengals held a winning record in four of the last five seasons. If the bill passes, that streak would make them eligible for funding.
- 🗣️ Making a Point - The latest? The Browns’ plans for a new stadium complex are in a hot public debate. Representatives from the team showed up at a recent townhall where attendees spoke out. Will the bill get passed? Not likely in a Republican-controlled legislature, but the message potentially plants a seed.
🔥Bottom line: Maybe the Browns have too many Urkels on their team and that’s why their Winslow. Only 90s kids will get that one. While we’re talking taxes, a recent survey shows that Americans really want tax reform…like yesterday. Check out this article for all the nerdy deets!
