According to a new study, poor performance is often caused by several specific health issues. 🩹Japanese researchers looked at data from over 12,500 workers to find out exactly how health issues impact life on the job. 👩🏽‍💻 We've got their findings right here.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on health issues and underperformance on the job:

  1. 🧑🏾‍⚕️What's Up, Doc? - Here they are, ranked from most common to least: depressive symptoms, lack of appetite, insufficient sleep, heart palpitations and/or shortness of breath, dizziness, joint pain, headache, stomach/intestine problems, diarrhea and/or constipation.
  1. 🩻 My Neck, My Back - The men in the study who experienced high levels of unproductivity also commonly had at least one of these four additional symptoms: mental illness, lower back pain, eye strain, stiff neck and/or shoulders.
  1. 👨🏼‍🦳 Grumpier Old Men - Some people in the study were more likely to report poor work productivity than others. Men, older adults, managers, and customer service professionals ranked the highest.
  1. 😵‍💫 Stressin' Me Out - According to the World Health Organization, these five factors are the most to blame for work-related stress: poor work organization, a lack of control over work processes, poor management, lousy working conditions, and a lack of support from colleagues and supervisors.
  2. 🛌 Catch a Snooze - To combat these negative effects, the researchers recommend that employees make their mental health a priority. They also recommend getting a good night's sleep! Poor sleep habits were found to lead to working long hours, work overload, interpersonal conflicts, and low job satisfaction.

🔥Bottom line: This goes without saying, but your health should be your number one priority. Without it, you won't be able to do any work whatsoever, not to mention enjoy all the other things life has to offer.
