If you want to see if your company executives think they’re better than you, take a look at where they park. According to some experts, reserved parking is a telltale sign, and not a good one.
Here’s Five Fast Facts About Executive Parking:
- 🚘 Superiority Complex - One strategist says that anyone in charge who considers themselves so important that they need to park closer to the building shouldn’t be in a leadership position.
- 🚗 Mine, Not Yours - Reserved parking is also a sure sign that the executives feel you’re there to work for them rather than with them. In other words, you’re their servant.
- 🛻 My Way - Reserved parking is a big signifier that leadership is resistant to change. Those few people that get special spots? They’re clearly the only people with a voice that matters.
- 🛞 The Real Cost - Whether they realize it or not, reserved parking is a sign that management thinks they’re better than you and deserve special treatment. “Let them eat cake,” or in this case, “Let them walk farther,” indeed.
- 🎁 Give It Away Now - Critics argue that reserved parking should exist only to be used as an employee giveaway or as an accommodation for those with mobility issues or working late hours. It’s a sign of generosity and appreciation. Employees appreciate it and actually consider it an honor.
🔥Bottom line: Certainly there are exceptions to the rule above, but in a majority of the cases it’s just another sign that the powers that be absolutely do not get it. They’ve lost touch (if they even had it to begin with) with what it means to truly be part of a team.
