Ohio's Unemployment Rate Hits a Record Low

Hereโ€™s Five Fast Facts on Ohio's unemployment rate:

  1. ๐Ÿ’ฟ Record Breaker - Last month, per the latest data, Ohio counted up 5,639,200 non-farming jobs. That's a state record for the highest number of filled jobs ever recorded. It also led to a record-low unemployment rate of 3.3%.ย 
  1. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ How Trendy - Similar to Ohio, the nationwide unemployment rate has also been trending downward since early 2020. Last month, it stood at 3.5%.
  1. ๐Ÿ˜… A Full Recovery - By the end of this past Spring, Ohio recovered almost all the jobs lost during the pandemic. Based on July's unemployment numbers, the Buckeye State has recovered job losses since the previous jobs peak back in May of 2000.
  1. ๐Ÿ™Œ Raise the Roof - Organizers are collecting signatures as we speak for a proposal to raise Ohio's minimum wage. The proposal could hit the ballot sometime in 2024.ย 
  1. ๐Ÿ’ฏ A Decent Proposal - Ohio's current hourly minimum wage is $10.10 and increases each year with inflation. The proposed amendment raises the hourly minimum wage to $12.75 first in 2025 and then to $15 in 2026. Annual inflationary increases will continue from there on out.

๐Ÿ”ฅBottom line: While this is great news, job numbers aren't always what they seem. That being said, Ohio's economy has been getting a major boost lately with all the companies setting up shop and creating jobs. Let's hope these new unemployment stats mean real positive outcomes for Ohioans.
