Ohio's Getting EV Charging Stations!

Worried that your electric vehicle (EV) won't make it to grandma's house? 👩🏽‍🦳Pretty soon, you'll be able to get there with some battery juice to spare! 🔋

Ohio has plans to use $18 million worth of federal funding to build a bunch of EV charging stations. 🚘 Fun fact: it's the first state to announce plans to use money from the infrastructure law passed in 2021. What trailblazers! 🤠

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Ohio's plans for the new charging stations:

  1. 🛣️ What's the Game Plan? - A grand total of 27 EV charging stations will be set up within a mile of the following major interstates: I-70, I-71, I-75, I-76, I-77, and I-90. The plan is to build a charging station every 50 miles.
  1. 🍫 Grab Some Snacks - The new stations will feel a lot like traditional rest stops and include gas stations, travel centers, and convenience stores. Some will even include hotels, grocery stores, and restaurants.
  1. 🚗 Stranded in the South - If you live in southern Ohio between Cincinnati and Marietta, you'll have to wait awhile. Right now, there aren't any plans for charging sites there, but officials are planning a second round of 16 to 20 additional stations over the next five years. There are also plans to build chargers along state routes.
  1. 💵 That'll Cost Ya - Charging at one of the new stations won't be free. The industry sets the price and on average, you're looking at spending $15 to $20 per 20% charge.
  1. 🎉 New Year's Resolutions - If all goes to plan, the new stations will be up and running in 2024. The new charging stations are expected to be in operation next year. Today, Ohio has 13 existing charging stations.

🔥Bottom line: With all the push for EVs happening these days, it's good to see plans in motion to provide more chargers along the highway. Who wants to be stranded with a dead battery?
