Microsoft just bought a pumpkin farm in Wisconsin. That’s… weird, right? Relax. It’s okay if you’re confused. Rest assured they’re not getting into the gourd game.
Here’s Five Fast Facts About Microsoft’s Pumpkin Purchase:
- 🎃 Farm Club - The farm in question is formerly known as the Land of the Giants Pumpkin Farm in Mount Pleasant.
- 🚜 Cash Out - Microsoft paid $76M for the 407-acre farm, which was previously valued at $600,000. The local government tried to buy it on behalf of Foxconn back in 2017 for somewhere around that price. Someone had a really smart realtor.
- 🖥️ AI-OU - Microsoft said it’s using the land for data center infrastructure, which is an important part of expanding AI technology. Hi there, Skynet!
- 🏗️ Build Better - They’ve already started building, too. An initial $1B construction phase will start on a previously-purchased 215 acres. Microsoft said it expects 200 jobs, with potential future expansions adding another 460 jobs.
- 🏗️Add On - This purchase is in addition to Microsoft’s other land acquisitions from earlier in the year, totaling almost two square miles. They’re serious about investing.
🔥Bottom line: Who’s your daddy, Foxconn? Hopefully this land acquisition will be a good thing for the folks in Mount Pleasant. They’ve been getting the shaft since the start. Certainly $76 million will go a long way for some people.
