What’s better than spending a weekend afternoon in a waterfront town? 🏞️ When the weather’s right, you can take a stroll with your sweetie along the riverside and treat them to a nice cold lemonade. That is, if they don’t whine! 😌🍋
Communities along the Ohio River are about to get some dough to make their towns sparkle, shine, and boost the economy. 🙌
Here’s Five Fast Facts on the investment and projects:
- 🌅 Rollin’ On the River - Governor Mike DeWine recently announced the state’s investing $152 million in various projects along Ohio’s Appalachian waterfront. The announcement received support from Ohio River Way, a non-profit organization dedicated to support and develop Ohio River communities.
- 🍰 Piece of the Pie - Funding will be divided up into 17 different riverfront projects. The projects aim to help more people access local waterways, breathe new life into historic riverfront downtowns, and boost tourism and recreation opportunities.
- 👷 Let’s Get to Work - Want more specifics on the projects? There’s a little bit of everything. Some projects are geared towards improving river-to-downtown connections. Others will focus on adding new parks, boat ramps, and docks. They’ll also work on improving walkability and revamping downtown areas with new streetscapes.
- 🗺️ On the Map - Here’s the hot list of the communities who will receive funding: Beverly, Portsmouth, Marietta, Gallipolis, Sardis, Higginsport, Ironton, South Point, Burlington, Ripley, Racine, Proctorville, New Richmond, Pomeroy, McConnelsville, Middleport, and Zanesville.
- 🪄 Granting Wishes - This round of funding for Ohio’s Wonderful Waterfronts Initiative is part of a larger project called the Appalachian Community Grant Program. That initiative made a commitment of $500 million to Ohio’s 32-county Appalachian region.
🔥Bottom line: We could sure go for that lemonade. Maybe enjoy it on a nice, relaxing river cruise with some yacht rock playing at a reasonable volume!
