A recent survey shows that Wisconsin households with young children have a stronger chance of struggling to pay bills or even put food on the table, compared to homes without.
Here’s Five Fast Facts About Wisconsin Families' Finances:
- 📊 Survey Says - The University of Wisconsin surveyed 3,500 families across the state. They compared the responses of participants with children under age six with those who don’t.
- 💰Uncovered - Turns out, more than a third of families with young kiddos find it tough to juggle their monthly bills, while less than a quarter of kid-free homes feel the same squeeze. And when it comes to unexpected expenses, 60% of families with little ones feel shaky, compared to 50% of those without.
- 🍲 Empty Cupboards - Food worries are weighing heavy on many minds. About 40% of families with young'uns are sweating over putting food on the table, while only 25% of others share the same concern. Especially for families making less than $50,000 a year, it's like trying to keep the pantry stocked on a shoestring.
- 🚑 Big Emergency - When life throws a curveball, like a surprise medical bill or car repair, most families feel the pinch. Sixty percent of those with young children and 50% of those without aren't feeling too confident about handling these unexpected expenses.
- 📈 Inflated - The rising cost of living is keeping many Wisconsinites up at night. Seventy-five percent of families with young kids are feeling the squeeze, compared to 63% of other households.
🔥Bottom line: It's no secret, these numbers paint a tough picture. Many hard-working families in Wisconsin are facing some serious challenges, and it's clear as day that something needs to change.
