Calling all nerds! 🤓 New data from the Pennsylvania Comprehensive Housing Study just dropped. They’re calling their database the Data Explorer. We wonder if it’s the kind of explorer who likes to dress in all khaki and speak in a British accent? Cheerio! 🕵️
The report listed a bunch of juicy stats on housing trends across the state’s 67 counties. Let’s dive in, shall we? 🏊
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Pennsylvania’s housing trends:
- 📊 Down & Up - In the Keystone State, homeownership has fallen since 2010. However, the amount of renters in PA is on the rise, jumping from 1.47 million households in 2010 to 1.64 million.
- 🏡 Good to be Home - Here’s some good news: since 2007, the number of those experiencing homelessness has generally decreased. Last year, PA had an estimated 12,556 homeless individuals statewide.
- 🏢 The Rent Report - Although the supply of low-cost rental units seems to be shrinking, it’s decreasing in proportion to the supply of rental units overall. In 2010, a quarter of all rental units in the state rented for under $750. In 2022, 23% of units rented for that amount.
- 🥴 I Like My Water Unleaded - Sure, you might chuckle at those lead warnings your landlord gives you when you move into a new apartment, but don’t laugh too hard. PA is estimated to have the 4th largest system of lead water service lines in the whole U.S. of A.
- 🛜 Do You Guys Have WiFi? - We’ve reported before on PA’s initiatives to boost broadband internet across the state. However, a third of Pennsylvania’s residents still don’t have access to broadband. Let’s get movin’!
🔥Bottom line: Bonus stat: when it comes to who’s experiencing a housing cost burden, households at the bottom of the income spectrum are feeling it more than those at the top. Something tells us you’re not surprised. Need a palette cleanser? Put one of these PA spring activities on your list!
