New Stats on Ohio's Diverse Workforce

We know immigration's a touchy subject. Regardless of your stance, transplants from around the globe make up more than 20% of Ohio's workforce. 🌍💼

A new report on Ohio's immigrant workers contains some interesting stats. 📊👀 Here's how things have been shaking out. 

 

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Ohio's immigrant workforce:

  1. 🏭 Makin' Stuff - Manufacturing is making a comeback in the U.S., especially in Ohio. The state’s manufacturing sector generated over $112 billion in produced goods and services in 2019. In 2021, production worker job postings made up the lion's share of manufacturing postings. The amount of listings more than tripled from 5,063 to 19,477 over a five year span. Immigrants made up 5.4% of all production workers between 2015 to 2019.
  1. 💻 Digital Divas - STEM jobs are booming in Ohio, especially under the computer jobs umbrella (think: software developers and computer programmers). Between 2015 and 2019, the average share of immigrant workers in computer-related jobs was 13.5%.
  1. 🩺 An Apple a Day - The healthcare industry also saw an increase in vacancies. Between 2017 and 2021, healthcare-related job postings increased by 82%. From 2015 to 2019, Ohio immigrants made up 4.4% of registered nurses (RNs), 13.1% of nurse practitioners (NPs), and 13.6% of home healthcare aides.

  2. 🗺️ Represent! - Although immigrants are a significant minority in Ohio's population, they're active in the economy. In 2019, immigrants made up 4.7% of the population, but 5.7% of the state’s overall workforce.

  3. 🗣️Talk to Me - Speaking more than one language has its perks. Job postings demanding bilingual workers increased by 106.5 percent from 2017 to 2021.
