Good news! A new state-of-the-art recycling plant is opening near Minneapolis. That’s good news for the region, the state, and the environment. Think of it as a three-for-one deal.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Minnesota’s New Recycling Plant:
- ♻️ Who? - Myplas USA is a South Africa-based company. They’ll be opening a mechanical recycling and pelletizing plant in Rogers.
- 🛍️ What? - The plant will strictly recycle flexible film, a material that includes pallet wrap, shrink wrap, food packaging, and (most importantly) single-use shopping bags.
- 🌎 How Much? - When the plant is at its full capacity, it will recycle close to 90 million pounds of plastic waste per year. That’s enough to wrap the planet in pallet wrap more than 135 times.
- 🧴 Where From? - The $13M funding for the plant came from a unique bunch of places. General Mills, Schwan’s Company, Charter Next Generation, Target, Ecolab, The Alliance to End Plastic Waste, Closed Loop Partners, and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The Minnesota Job Skills Partnership also has support from DEED for workforce training and development.
- 📊 How Many? - The plant is projected to create 200 jobs. Could our state’s record low unemployment be any lower?
🔥Bottom line: More jobs. More money. More skilled workers. Less single-use plastic. Looks like the economy is on a roll up here and we’re all benefiting from it. Screw those other states!
