Those cow farts are no joke when it comes to climate change! 🐄💨 Did you know they come from the dairy air??? Say it out loud a few times if you don’t catch our whiff! 🙃
If you’re worried about cow farts causing the next big hurricane, have no fear. Pennsylvania’s getting a ton of funding to give climate-friendly farming practices a boost. 🚀
Here’s Five Fast Facts on funding for PA farming:
- 🚜 Farm Smart - Thanks to the federal government’s Farm Bill and the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, almost $1 billion in federal funds are going towards Pennsylvania’s farming community. The money will help researchers develop and increase “climate-smart” farming practices.
- 🐮 Don’t Have a Cow - OK, we weren’t joking about cow farts. For the first time in history, the PA Department of Agriculture will pay farmers to feed their livestock digestion-friendly food additives to get those fart counts down. The agency will get roughly $21 million in funding to support this initiative.
- 💲 Try My Product - Some of the grant money will also go towards branding and marketing efforts for climate-smart products. The Rodale Institute is getting funding to help farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote healthy soil, and market produce.
- 🧑🌾 Greeeeeeeeen Acres - Talk about going green! Almost $20 million will go to the National Hemp Association to improve conservation practices on 5,000 acres of hemp production in PA and neighboring states.
- 🧺 Grants for Grazers - Other grants include one for Lincoln University to create markets for those who use climate-smart techniques to produce berries, nuts, flowers, and more. Another chunk of MOO-lah is going to the Pennsylvania Grazing Lands Coalition to raise low-carbon beef.
🔥Bottom line: Just think about how amazing the world would be if we could stop cows from farting our climate into ruin. It would be absolutely…legen-dairy. While we’re talking about giving money to good causes, check out this roundup of the best charities to give to!
