What do you call the void between Christmas and New Year’s? We call it…time to watch Dr. Phil reruns on free TV. 👴🏻If you need us, we’re busy perfecting our imitation of him saying, “are you NUTS?” 🥜🤪
Good news! You don’t need a relationship expert to fix your relationship with money. 💵 With a few little tweaks to your mindset, you can set yourself up for smooth sailing in the new year. ⛵
Here’s Five Fast Facts on how to improve your relationship with money:
- 🧠 Head Games - Got a nagging money voice inside your noggin? If you have shame around money, it’s probably affecting you more than you realize. To get over those bad vibes, try looking at money as a tool to meet your future goals. Spend time envisioning what you want the next 5, 10, 20 years to look like and back into the equation. Oh, and let yourself off the hook for past money mishaps. Let it go, Elsa style.
- 🥇 Go For the Gold - Goals are only worth it if they’re clear. Getting as specific as possible helps you stay motivated to make it to the finish line. If you’ve got plans to save for a summer vacation, use a finance tracking app or a trusty Excel spreadsheet. Seeing your visual progress every month is a nice hit of dopamine!
- 🗒️ Keep It Simple - While you’re busy making your money goals clear, don’t forget to make them practical too. If your goals are too lofty, you’re less likely to stick with them. Don’t be afraid to start small. Wanna build up that emergency fund? Even a commitment of just $20 every two weeks will get you over $2,000 by December. Not too shabby!
- 💳 We’re Interested - The Fed’s lowering interest rates, but they’re still putting a hurt on our wallets. Fortunately, we do have some power. If you have a lot of high-interest credit card debt, consider shopping around for a better deal. Check out 0% interest balance transfer offers or low interest personal loans.
- ⌚ Pay to Play - We probably sound like a broken record, but a solid relationship with money includes paying your bills on time. Not doing so hurts your credit score AND your wallet. Those late fees are a real female dog. Have a case of CRS? Take advantage of autopay whenever you can.
