Need a Money Meditation? What Yoga and Your Finances Have in Common

June 21st was International Yoga Day and we just *know* you were on your mat, celebrating with your body twisted in a pretzel. 🥨 Wait, you weren't? Well, at the very least, we know you were thinking about your paycheck. 💭💸

Did you know good personal finance habits have a lot in common with the philosophy of yoga? “Om” your way through these fun facts, enlightened one! 🧘

Here’s Five Fast Facts on yoga and your paycheck:

  1. 🙏 Patience, Grasshopper - Becoming a Bendy Wendy doesn't happen overnight. It takes discipline and consistent practice. The same can be said for building sustainable wealth. Saving a little bit at a time goes a long way and before you know it, you're sitting on a pretty nice nest egg.
  1. 🪞 Man in the Mirror - Every wise yogi knows self-awareness is the key to growth. Constantly evaluating strengths and weaknesses helps you move in the right direction and ask for help when you're tackling a new pose...or money move. Take an honest look at your personal finances and get real about what you need to succeed. Enlist the help of a mentor or financial advisor when you need it!
  1. 🥴 I'm Stuck - Some yoga poses are risky business and aren't for the faint of heart. The infamous headstand pose is impressive, but many average Joe/Jane yogis steer clear because of the potential injuries. Knowing your own personal financial situation allows you to manage risk and not go overboard. Be smart about what you invest in and how you spend your cash to protect yourself over the long term.
  1. 🛣️ No Shortcut Zone - All master yogis have dedicated their lives to the practice and know it's a life-long journey. Once you master one skill, there's always something else to learn. In the personal finance world, things are changing by the minute. While you don't need to become the next Dave Ramsey, staying in-the-know on the latest financial trends will work wonders on your wallet.
  1. 🧠 Mind Your Money - Mindfulness is more than a millennial buzzword! While mindfulness in yoga looks like breathing and meditation, money mindfulness looks like knowing where your dollars go and spending responsibly. When you don't have a handle on your thoughts, a mindful meditation practice helps you get back to center. If your finances are all over the place, start being more mindful about your paycheck and bring back your balance.

🔥Bottom line: A wise yogi once said namaste…on top of your finances! 🙃 We don't actually know a yogi who said that, but hey, it's good advice. Managing risk, assessing your financial situation, and spending mindfully are some pretty powerful habits indeed. Can't meditate your way out of a lower car insurance bill?
