Moving And Grooving (To An Awful Tune)

At this point, everyone knows inflation is driving up costs on everything. But one result of that is that it’s also driving more and more people to move or take on extra jobs just to make ends meet.

Here are Five Fast Facts on the recent explosion in moves and side hustles:

  1. 😭 The Pain - Almost ⅔ of Americans (64%) say their living expenses are harder to pay for, compared to just one year ago. Where has the other 36% been for the last year?!
  2. 🏢 The Return - On top of increasing prices, work-related expenses that got better with pandemic work-from-home setups – like commuting and childcare – have come back as more companies are requiring in-person work again. *sad trombone sound*
  3. 🚚🌎 The Mass Move - A big chunk of workers (18%) have moved to a cheaper location to save money, and another 13% have plans to move in the future. Location, location, location…
  4. ✖️2️⃣ Double Duty - Over half of workers (57%) pick up overtime or extra shifts to make more money, and 51% have considered picking up a second job just to pay the bills. We’re actually kinda' surprised it wasn’t more than that!
  5. 👪 The ‘Rents Over ⅔ of parents say their pay falls short of their living expenses. They are also almost twice as likely to move compared to workers without kids. Is it because they’re more desperate to make a better life for those kids, or simply to avoid all the whining? (Does it really matter?)

🔥Bottom line: You do what you have to to make things work, right? Maybe none of this is a surprise, but it sure is painful to watch (and to be stuck in it)! Inflation is really shoving our Paychecks through a meat grinder, so we all could use some major relief! This means responsible, sane policies from our elected leaders - demand it of them!

Did we mention there’s a midterm election coming up soon…?
