More Broadband In Michigan!

Modern America runs through the Internet. Whether it’s entertainment from YouTube, Netflix, or one of many other streaming or gaming platforms, news or informational websites to find anything you might be looking for, or actual productivity like working from home or other communications, the Internet is everywhere. And with all that data flying around for all those reasons, it needs to be fast, too!

Not everyone has access to broadband Internet, but a lot more are going to get it soon!

Here are Five Fast Facts on MI’s upcoming broadband expansion:

  1. 📜 The Law - A huge federal infrastructure law was passed a couple years ago that set aside $65 billion for various improvements in all states. It included a program called the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program which specifically targets Internet improvements.
  1. 💨 Just For Michigan - The BEAD program set aside $1.5 billion to bring faster Internet to over 200k Michiganders who don’t currently have it (both residential and businesses).
  1. 4️ Top Of The Pile - Michigan’s piece of the pie is the fourth largest in the nation! It was based on things like state population, size, and current access to broadband.
  1. 📈 Adding Up - This is on top of the $950 million that has already been set aside by other state-level programs to build out a better Internet here in the state.
  1. ⏳ When Does It Happen? - There’s a fair amount of planning to do first, but the action to build our better Internet will start as early as the middle of next year. If you want to stay up to date, you can check out the website Michigan.gov/MIHI.

🔥Bottom line: This should result in more opportunities for people to bring in better Paychecks (along with all the other fun stuff, too), and expand business services around the state.

One might complain that huge spending like this is contributing to the ugly inflation going on right now (and one would be correct). But, the fact is that our government has already spent the money so there’s not much to be done about it now. At least this time it’ll provide some real benefits to real people who really need it! That’s a win we’ll take every time.
