Minnesota is Scaring Truckers

There are quite a few reasons that make Minnesota one of the best states ever. We’re one of the 10 most fun states in the country. Our credit rating. We’re not Wisconsin! But there’s one group of people who dread crossing into the state: truckers. Turns out there’s a lack of safe parking and it’s giving them nightmares.

Here’s Five Fast Facts about Semi-Truck Parking in Minnesota:

  1. 🚚 No Parking - A report from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) shows there are 4,846 truck parking spaces in the state. There are only 677 provided by MnDOT at rest areas. The rest are located at private truck stops.
  2. ⛔ Exit Closed - When they hit Minnesota, truckers have begun experiencing what they call “parking anxiety.” It’s caused by having to find a safe place to park after driving for 11 hours.
  3. 📊 Lot Full - A MnDOT study shows that truck parking at rest stops are over 200% capacity. And you thought the mall was bad.
  4. 🚧 Dead End - It also doesn’t help that Minneapolis and St. Paul have outright banned semi truck parking within the city limits because of crowded streets.
  5. 🛣️ Permit Required - The Minnesota Trucking Association and American Trucking Association have sent letters to Gov. Walz, asking him for federal funding and grants from the USDOT to build new truck parking spots at rest areas or private facilities.

🔥Bottom line: Truckers are an important part of daily life here in the US. They have a lot of strict regulations to follow and a lack of parking in our state only makes things worse for them. If drivers begin leaving the workforce, we may be in some serious trouble.
