Signs of life continue at the Thunderdome that was once the Foxconn plant, with Microsoft announcing it will expand its operations there.
Here’s Five Fast Facts about Microsoft’s Foxconn expansion:
- 🖥️ System Upgrade - The computer titan has agreed to purchase another 1,030 acres in a tax incremental district originally set aside for Foxconn. The land will be used for additional data centers.
- 🖱️ Flash Drive - The expansion piggybacks on top of an already planned data center at the Mount Pleasant site that Microsoft announced earlier in the year.
- 💻 USB - The expansion guarantees an additional property value of $1.4B by 2028. Hello Wisconsin, indeed!
- 💿 Screen Saver - As part of the deal, Microsoft will invest $4.2M to restore 1.5 miles of Lamparek Creek, which was originally part of Foxconn’s promises. Microsoft will provide $100,000 for water restoration efforts and $200,000 for science, technology, engineering, and math programs.
- ⌨️ Desktop Space - The deal would make Microsoft the largest landowner in the district that Foxconn originally said they’d buy before it told the state it was going out for smokes and never came back.
🔥Bottom line: As we’ve seen in the past on this site, when it comes to Foxconn, our readers have very strong opinions mostly based on their political affiliation. Putting that aside, there’s no arguing that this is making chicken scratch out of chicken $#it for the state. That’s a lot of money rolling in…
