Michigan's Long-Term Career Growth Is Looking Good

The job market in Western Michigan is looking rosier than a good chardonnay! 🍷 The state recently announced a career outlook report on expected high-wage jobs over the next few years, and the news was great!

Here are Five Fast Facts on Western Michigan’s job outlook:

  1. 💰 The Jobs - There are lots of jobs listed across a wide variety of fields, including dental assistants, roofers, lawyers, engineers, tech, and more. The jobs with the biggest wage ranges are architectural and engineering managers ($51-76) and computer/info system managers ($50-77). Those are the kind of Paychecks we like to see! 😍
  1. 🎓 Education Level - Of the top jobs listed, 31 require at least a bachelor’s degree, and 19 require something above a high school diploma. Twelve are trades and five are specifically STEM jobs. Something for everyone!
  1. 👍 That’s The Plan - This suits Gov. Whitmer just fine, as it fits nicely into her “60 by 30” goal. She’d like to see at least 60% of the state’s workers with postsecondary degrees by the end of the decade.
  1. 📈 On The Way - Michigan is expecting to add almost 400k jobs between 2020 and 2030, a growth rate of almost 9%. In Western Michigan specifically (where this study focuses) the growth rate is expected to be almost a full point higher than that. Overachievers…
  1. ❤️‍🔥 Imports - The current growth rate is being sustained by folks coming into the state. Only seven of the state’s 83 counties had a positive birth rate between 2021-2022. So hey, all you young (or youngish) couples out there…GET BUSY!

🔥Bottom line: The report on the rest of the state should be released in late August, and we’ll keep an eye out for it. For now, this is great news for folks in the Western part of the state!
