What’s the difference between energy and clean energy? One has taken a shower! 🤣
All dad jokes aside, clean energy is a job market of the future, and Michigan is killing it! But what is it, exactly, and how do we know we’re awesome at it?
Here are Five Fast Facts on clean energy in Michigan:
- 🧼 What Is It - The US government defines clean energy as energy that produces little or no harmful emissions and is environmentally friendly. It includes solar, wind, water, geothermal, bioenergy and nuclear. If only we could somehow convert dad jokes, we’d be energy independent instantly (and with a never ending supply!).
- 📈 The Scorecard - A recent report based on data from the US Department of Energy shows Michigan has almost 128,000 clean energy jobs, the sixth highest number in the country. This job sector is growing almost twice as fast as the overall employment rate.
- ✋ Me Too - Not to be outdone by its younger and more politically correct brother, the overall energy sector in Michigan has the third highest job growth in the country, trailing only Texas and California. Isn’t sibling rivalry the best? “I’ll see your 6th and raise you a 3rd!”
- 🏙️ Smaller Scale - The city of Detroit is leading the way on clean energy, as it was one of the top 10 cities in the nation for clean energy jobs. Too bad it doesn’t also include the cleaning of graffiti…
- 💨 Full Speed Ahead - The total number of clean energy jobs in the US is almost 3.5 million, and is growing 200% faster than overall job growth.
🔥Bottom line: We want to see all the good paying, high quality jobs we can get in our state! Clean energy provides a lot of those, and more here than almost anywhere else, so it certainly qualifies as a great thing to see!
