Michigan Considers A Tax Cut

Imagine if your parents suddenly said, “Hey, we’re cutting your chores by 5% but we’ll still pay you the same amount!” Sounds awesome, right? Well, that’s kind of what Michigan lawmakers are thinking about doing with income taxes. They want to cut the rate from 4.25% to 4.05%, giving people back a little extra cash. But like every good idea, not everyone’s thrilled.

Here are Five Fast Facts about a potential tax cut in Michigan:

  1. 💵 Chores…But Taxes - Some lawmakers want to trim taxes so people can keep more of their hard-earned allowan…ahem, Paychecks.
  1. 🥚 Savers And Spenders - The extra cash could be as much as $140 per household. Supporters say this cut will let people save more…or buy some eggs.
  1. 🤔 Budget Blues - Critics worry that cutting taxes might mean less money for important stuff like schools and roads—because nobody likes potholes.
  1. ☝️ First Step - The House still needs to vote on this plan, so the debate is far from over. If it passes, it would then have to pass the Senate and get signed by the Governor. One step at a time!
