Lower Natural Gas Prices = Lower Heating Bills for Ohioans

Brace yourselves…winter is coming. ❄️ While the upcoming chilly season will bring ice, snow, and mammoth potholes, we do have some good news for Ohioans! If you heat your home with natural gas, you'll likely get a break on your utility bills. ♨️💸

With the cost of natural gas on the decline, you'll get to save more of your hard-earned paychecks this winter. Sock the extra cash away in a savings account, splurge on holiday gifts for your sweetie, or grab that last minute ticket out of town to escape Christmas at the in-laws. 😆✈️

 

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the decreased cost of natural gas:

  1. 📉 Price Cut - According to Columbia Gas of Ohio, the fuel portion of the company's natural gas bills for customers who do not receive their supply through default service is estimated to be 25% to 35% lower than it was last year. 
  1. 💨 Give It Some Gas - Across the Midwest, roughly two-thirds of homes are heated by natural gas. This winter, the cost of heating a home for the whole season should be around $581, down 21% from last year.
  1. 🤓 So On Trend - Natural gas prices have been on the decline since May. In September, the price was $2.74 per thousand cubic feet, which was down two-thirds from September 2022. The story's the same nationwide. The average U.S. residential natural gas price in September was 17% less than it was last year.
  2. ⚡ Even Steven - If you heat your home with electricity, you can expect your bills to stay the same as last year. Estimated cost for the entire winter is $1,213.
  1. ☃️ Snow Big Deal - The Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicts this winter will be slightly colder than last winter for the eastern half of the U.S. That being said, it'll also be warmer than the average of the last 10 winters.
