Getting sick of scrolling through job postings? 🥴📃Hearing crickets from all those interviews? 🦗 We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you might have to put in a few more weeks at the application factory. 🗓️
LinkedIn data from the Spring and Summer shows it could take job seekers around two months to land a new gig. Good things come to those who wait?! ⌚
Here’s Five Fast Facts on how long the job search may take:
- ⏳ Days Go By - LinkedIn looked at data from 178,000 hires in the U.S. between April and June of this year. They found jobs within finance, healthcare, consulting, engineering, management, and sales take an average of 57 days to fill.
- ⏰ Who's Got the Time? - The time your job search takes could depend on how experienced you are. Entry-level jobs have a hiring cycle of around six weeks. More senior roles take an average of seven weeks.
- 🧑💼 Cool Job, Bro - Want a big brain consulting gig? They tend to have the longest time to hire (63 days). This is because these jobs are known to have a crazy-long screening and interview process, complete with nail-biting case studies. May the best nerd win.
- 🧑💻 Make It Quick - On the other hand, if you're looking for a marketing gig, you'll likely snag one much quicker. Marketing jobs have an average hiring time of 49 days. The shorter time frame is due to marketing being a more general field with less specialized jobs, and recruiters have access to a larger candidate pool.
- 🛑 Hold the Line - We haven't *officially* declared a recession, but many companies hit the pause button on their job postings just in case. The Fed's interest rate hikes this year didn't help, either. The good news is that once businesses feel more confident in the economy, things should start to pick back up.
🔥Bottom line: If you're out there fishing for work, be ready to play the long game! We know money's tight these days, but don't jump at the first job that comes your way. Make sure you research the companies you're interviewing with and don't settle for a bad fit. You should also pay attention to any red flags throughout the interview process.
