Does your job make your life a little too Groundhog Day? 🦫 Craving a break from the boredom? 😴 Well, it might be time for a much needed career change.
Word on the street is that healthcare jobs are having a brat summer. 🩻💚 No, you can’t be a 365 party girl on the job, but that sweet new paycheck might fund a vacay with the girlies. 💕
Here’s Five Fast Facts on the rise of healthcare jobs:
- 🧑⚕️ What’s Up, Doc? - Healthcare jobs are so hot right now. According to the Labor Department, this year so far, healthcare has added an average of 59,000 jobs a month. Whoa! That’s more than any other industry. Jobs include all level jobs from home health aids and EMTs to nurses.
- 🏥 Healthcare Highs - This past June, the health care and social assistance industry’s job openings rate sat at 7.6%, the highest seasonally adjusted rate of any industry. Compare that to the overall rate across the job market, which was 5.5%.
- 💪 Paycheck Power - All this job growth also means healthcare workers are earning more than employees in the private sector. In the private sector, wages grew by 4% between Q2 of 2023 and 2024. Healthcare outpaced that with a wage growth rate of 4.5%.
- 🚀 Behind the Boost - Why are healthcare jobs so abundant? We’re now experiencing a rebound from the COVID days, which put a strain on healthcare resources. Another perk of healthcare jobs is that they’re pretty resistant to economic cycles. People will always need emergency care, surgery, and other necessary procedures, even in recessions.
- 🩺 Makin’ Medical Moves - Thinking about switching to the healthcare industry? You’ll probably have to go back to school. However, the length of the program you choose will depend on your target job, and it’s not always super-lengthy. Phlebotomists are in high demand and it takes less than a year to get certified. If you want to be a registered nurse, expect to be in school for another two to four years.
🔥Bottom line: Making a career change isn’t easy, but taking steps to find fulfillment (and earn more cash) is always worth it in the end! Because of the high demand, most healthcare students are offered jobs soon after graduation. Although you can still find jobs without a college degree, one study shows it might be tough to find decent work by 2030. We broke all the details down in a recent article!
