Who can pass up a great deal? 🤑 These days, everyone's looking to stretch their dollar like it's a master yogi. 🧘 No matter where you live, chances are you're dealing with price hikes on essential items. 📈
Curious about how the country's spending their paychecks? A new study asked Americans about their shopping habits and revealed how your fellow citizens get those deals and steals.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on how Americans shop:
- 💸 Savviest Spenders - The study found that Mississippi and Alabama practice the most savings strategies. The data shows a correlation between states with high poverty rates and being a savvy spender. Mississippi is the poorest state in the USA, with a poverty rate of 18.7%. That's significantly above the national average poverty rate of 11.7%.
- 🛍️ Discount Divas - Researchers also found that 77% of Americans shop in the clearance section on the regular. Around half of those surveyed say they would only buy clothing at a discount. One in three Americans say they’d never pay full price for electronics. Others refuse to pay full price for groceries, books, and hotels.
- 🤠 Coupon Cowboys - Arizona residents are number one when it comes to signing up for retailer loyalty programs to earn points and discounts. Those in Kentucky used more coupons than other states.
- 🛒 Sale-chasing Sallies - Iowa residents shop clearance more than any other state. Utah residents are more likely than those from other states to wait for an item to go on sale before buying it.
- 📱 Mobile App Mavens - Americans love digital savings and 44% are members of over five loyalty or rewards programs. Most people (70%) prefer to access their coupons on the store’s mobile app.
🔥Bottom line: Whether you're trying to save more money or want to make every penny of your paycheck count, no one's too cool for the coupon game. Make sure to take advantage of discounts, sales, and loyalty programs at your favorite shopping spots. Do you shop at Costco? If so, think twice before buying these five items.
