Legal Weed Talks Are Blazing in Ohio

Legalizing the ol' devil's lettuce isn't a new concept. 🥬The states that haven't given the green stuff the green light yet are watching all their sister states pull the trigger. 🔫

A group known as the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol is pushing hard for legalization in the Buckeye State. 🗳️ They want a citizen initiative on the November ballot that would "legalize and regulate cultivation, manufacturing, testing, and sales of marijuana" to Ohio citizens age 21 and older.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the latest legal weed initiative in Ohio:

  1. 🙌 Teamwork Makes the Dream Work - The coalition needed 124,046 signatures to get recreational weed on the November ballot. They originally came up short, but recently pulled through with an additional 6,545 signatures.
  1. 🪴 Green Thumb - This latest marijuana initiative would also legalize home grown weed. There would be a six plant limit per person and 12 plants per residence. There would also be a 10% tax imposed at the point of sale for each transaction.
  1. 🎉 Party in the USA - A recent poll shows 59% of Ohio voters support recreational marijuana. By party, 77% of Democrats, 63% of independents, and 40% of Republicans are in favor.
  1. 😎 Who's Got the Herb? - According to data from Ohio State University, the estimated annual tax revenue from adult-use marijuana sales in the state would result in between $276 million to $403 over the next five years.
  1. 🔄 Second Time Around - This won't be the first time legal weed tries to make its way through. Back in 2015, citizens pushed for both medical and recreational use, but it only got 35% of the votes.

🔥Bottom line: Whether you're all about blunts or you feel like legal weed would result in full blown Reefer Madness, recreational marijuana would generate a ton of tax revenue for Ohio. Have you heard about Ohio's electric bus initiative? Check that out here
