Keystone Pipeline 2.0?

Guess what’s back? The Keystone XL Pipeline saga! Trump is pushing hard to revive the long-dead project, promising fast approvals and construction. But like a bad soap opera, the drama never ends.

Here are Five Fast Facts on the Keystone XL Pipeline 2.0:

  1. 🚨 Energy Emergency - When he took office, Trump promised to “drill baby drill” to address America’s energy emergency, so he wants the pipeline built yesterday and promises no more regulatory delays.
  1. ✋ Not So Fast - The pipeline would go through Alberta, Canada, but they’re not as excited about the project because permits have been approved/rejected by each of the last four US presidential administrations. They’re tired of the yo-yo, and question if it’s worth the money.
  1. 😠 Hell No - In a completely unsurprising non-update, indigenous and environmental groups are still very much against the project.
  1. 💨 Plan B - With Canada’s reluctance to play ball on anything right now, the Trump administration is also sprinting toward opening new oil fields and LNG (liquefied natural gas) pipelines in Alaska’s ANWR region, aiming to transform it into an energy hotspot all by itself.
  1. 😱 Wait, What? - In a major poke of irony, Canada seems to be caught off guard on this pivot – as the ANWR project leaps forward for the US, Canadian energy production projects are bogged down in their own permitting processes.

🔥Bottom line: The Keystone XL Pipeline’s future is as shaky as a candle in a blizzard, but the US may still come out ahead in the end, unless Canada heats up and gets its own energy production moving.  Whoever provides it, more energy will help reduce prices for both Canadians and Americans, and we’ll take that all day long!
