Winter just kicked down the door and barged in on us and by all accounts it’s going to be a cold one. With heating costs climbing higher and higher every year, staying warm can be costly. But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to beat the cold on a budget!
Here’s Five Fast Facts Staying Warm on the Cheap:
- 🛋️ Fix the Furniture - If your furniture is near the window, it’s wise to (temporarily) move it away (or just not use it). Put flannel sheets on your bed. Carefully use a heating pad or blanket. Seriously, be careful. It’s really easy to burn yourself.
- 🧦 Bundle Up - Experts suggest an easy way to stay warm is to wear layers as well as thick socks and slippers. Put plenty of blankets around the house and get under them when you can.
- 🪟 Cover Your Holes - Cold air finds its way in through just about any opening. Block it out with things like clear window film, outlet covers, weather stripping, and closing your fireplace flue.
- 🚪 Hold It In - Take steps to keep the heat in. Minimize the use of your bathroom and stove vents. Reverse your ceiling fan to the clockwise direction. Close the heating vents in unused rooms (and keep that door shut).
- ☕ Eat the Heat - Since you are what you eat, it makes sense that you should eat hot (temperature) food and drink hot beverages. As an extra bonus, the cooking process also generates heat, keeping the kitchen nice and toasty.
🔥Bottom line: A lot of these are common-sense changes we can easily overlook (myself included), but they really do work. There is absolutely no shame in being smart about saving money.
